Employee Feature Series: Jenny R

by Jenny Rhead

We firmly believe in the idea that a company is only as good as its people. As a small business, each employee at Designs of Distinction plays an important role in our day-to-day operations.

We’re kicking off a series of Employee Features, not only to show appreciation for our employees, but also because we want you to know who’s who and what they do at Designs of Distinction.

Weā€™ve asked our employees a series of questions to kick off our ā€œget to know usā€ campaign, so letā€™s get started!

Introducing: Jenny R.

How long have you been with Designs of Distinction?

I’ve been with Designs of Distinction since 2017. Even though I took a “hiatus” for about a year and a half, I’ve always felt like I’ve had a home here. I started part-time as a purchasing assistant, and worked my way “up” to full-time positions – including Online Marketplace Manager, Product Manager, and now, Project Manager. I’m incredibly excited to be back full-time!

What is your favorite thing about working for Designs of Distinction?

My favorite thing is the fact that I actually enjoy coming to work, and that I like the people I work with. I call it my “Chicago family,” since my family is quite far out of Chicago. The folks here have seen me grow both personally & professionally, and go through some hard times in my life. They’ve been there to support me through whatever happens next – the good times and the bad.

What is your favorite part of the job?

The variety of projects I get to work on and the ability to get creative. I’m encouraged to use my creativity for all sorts of things – from creative problem solving to designing employee apparel… it keeps me from getting bored with the day-to-day things. I’m given almost complete autonomy, which makes me feel valued and trusted.

What is your hidden talent?

I can play Flute & Piccolo – I was in band and marching band in college. Do I still sound as good as when I was in college? Absolutely not. It’s hard to find a place to practice such high-pitched instruments. I’d like to pick it back up, though!

What show are you obsessed with right now?

Succession. Hands down.

Thanks to Jenny for her time & insight into what it’s like being a Project Manager for Designs of Distinction. Next, we introduce Mimi R. from Customer Service. Stay tuned to meet Mimi!
